Why you should make turmeric hot chocolate:

  • It’s healthy – turmeric contains curcumin which has anti-inflammatory properties. Check out the possible benefits of curcumin.
  • It’s made from scratch – nothing is better than a cup of homemade hot chocolate.
  • It’s different – but if you like trying new things or looking for healthier alternatives, then you should give it a go!

How to make turmeric hot chocolate

In a saucepan combine the milk, cocoa powder, turmeric and coconut oil. Give it a good whisk and bring it to a boil. Whisk occasionally to get rid of any turmeric or cocoa lumps and to make sure the milk won’t stick to the bottom of the saucepan.

When you bring it to a boil, turn off the heat and stir in black pepper and cayenne pepper. Now all you have to do is pour this in cups and serve.

Can I substitute some of the ingredients?

Yes. You can substitute some of the ingredients. Just bear in mind that certain ingredients are used in this turmeric hot chocolate on purpose. For example, coconut oil and black pepper help your body absorb the curcuma from turmeric. If you don’t have coconut oil, add some butter instead. I don’t recommend omitting black pepper.

Cayenne pepper can be omitted. Instead of honey, you can use any sweetener of your choice.

As for the milk: I personally haven’t tried using dairy-free milk but I don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t work.

Hi Linda. I have a section in the post “Can I substitute some of the ingredients?” which I recommend having look at. I don’t recommend substituting it with other oil in this recipe. Try using butter.
