Guys, if you are looking for a new fondant project, have a look at this angel cake topper video below! As most of my fondant video tutorials (apart from this Speedboat Tutorial & this Acoustic Guitar Tutorial), this one is also an easy one. All you need is a bit of patience to get it done! It is a nice Christmas cake decoration, isn’t it?

I have included a full list of tools I used as well as items that you could substitute in case you don’t have the ones I used.

What I used to make this fondant angel cake topper:

  • Gold Dust (optional)
  • 1 Toothpick
  • A Knife
  • Rolling Pin
  • Paint Brush & Water/Edible Glue
  • Icing Sugar for Dusting
  • Wafer Cone
  • Wings Template
  • Baking Paper
  • Ball Cake Modelling Tool
  • Sharp Point Tool
  • A few Drops of Alcohol
  • + a Gingerbread Heart
  • 150g White Fondant
  • 20g Yellow/Cream Fondant

Watch the video for this tutorial:

Substitutions:

Rolling pin
If you don’t have one, you can use a wine bottle instead. There is not much rolling required so it will work. Make sure you take the label off before using.

Icing sugar
Icing Sugar is used for dusting the work top. You can use corn flour instead.

A toothpick
You could use a skewer instead. It will probably be harder to stick the skewer into the wafer cone though.

Note:
The alcohol is mixed with gold dust.

The wings template is easy to make. It does not have to be perfect.

Wrap baking paper around the glass and secure with Sellotape. Once you have cut out the wings out of fondant place them onto the glass and let them set. This will take several days. To speed up the drying process you can add some Tylo powder to your fondant. Ask at your baking supplies shop for this, if interested.

The gingerbread heart is optional but I felt the angel would look better with it. Instead of the gingerbread cookie you could use a sugar cookie, if preferred.
