This tuna mousse dip is creamy, easy to make and so versatile! Use it as a dip, spread or turn it into fancy tuna appetizers.
If you are looking for easy party food recipes this tuna mousse dip is it!
Guys, it’s no secret that I love appetizers! Surely you must have noticed this as I have several delicious & easy bite size finger foods on my blog: Mozzarella Cheese Balls, Smoked Salmon Bites, Tuna Empanadas and Popcorn Chicken are only a few of them. These are perfect for any party or family gathering. By the way, Tuna Sandwich Cake is also a great party food.
Now I won’t be boring you with my bite size appetizers obsession anymore. Let’s talk about this easy tuna appetizer.
This tuna mousse dip recipe is quite popular in my family. My mom would make it for us quite often when we were kids. No wonder. It is quick and easy to make and crowds love it. That was why she would often turn the spread/dip into fancy looking canapes.
How to make tuna mousse dip
To make the mousse you need to start off with creaming butter and hot water together in a food processor. I highly recommend using butter at room temperature or softer. You want to achieve creamy texture before adding the rest of the ingredients in.
Make sure you have drained the tuna otherwise it may be too oily or liquid-y. Onion gives this tuna mousse a great flavor and adding ½ cup is just the right amount. If you love a stronger onion taste, increase the amount.
I added a good pinch of salt and pepper. If you are not sure about seasoning simply blend everything in the food processor first. Then give it a taste and only then season to your taste.
How to make tuna appetizers
Toasted bread + tuna spread + radish slice + chives is all you need to make them! By the way, feel free to make these appetizers with fresh baguette if you don’t want to use toasted bread. I found really tasty tiny toasties in our supermarket and they go well with this mousse.
Note: Bear in mind that when using toasted bread it is best to serve these canapes right away otherwise the bread loses its crispiness. If you want to prepare them well ahead, I suggest using fresh baguettes instead of toasts.
To make 24 canapes you will use about ½ cup of this tuna mousse dip so you will still have about a cup left. You can keep it in the fridge in an airtight container for 3 days. Let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before serving.
It only takes 5 minutes to make the spread. To make 24 tuna appetizers count with extra 10 minutes.
Why I love this tuna mousse dip: It’s so versatile – use it as a dip when throwing a party, spread it on sandwiches for a quick afternoon snack or make tuna canapes.

I too love bite sized appetizers and find cooking with canned tuna so convenient and easy! Will have to try this with vegan butter for a dairy free version of this recipe. Also never tried pairing radishes with tuna so will have to give that a go!
