With less than a 5-minute prep and only 5 ingredients this seasoned salt is an easy way to season your dishes. Also perfect for gift giving!
Seasoning salt adds flavor to many dishes. An easy-to-make seasoning blend that can be customizable to your liking.
This recipe is for a small quantity, but when you increase the quantities, you can use it to make DIY Christmas gifts or hostess gifts as well.
How to make seasoned salt at home
Tools:
- Measuring spoons and cups.
- Small bowl – a soup bowl is the perfect size but any will do as long as you can fit all in.
- Spoon – to stir everything around.
- Airtight container – or small glass jar with a lid to keep the seasoning salt in.
Ingredients:
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Paprika
- Turmeric powder
You simply combine all the ingredients together and give it a good mix.

Where to use seasoned salt:
- Sweet potato wedges
- Roasted vegetables
- Meats or poultry
- Fish – use it to season oven-baked or grilled salmon or any white fish.
- Hard-boiled or scrambled eggs – season to your taste.
- Soups – use the same way you would with regular salt.
Or many other dishes like roasted chickpeas, sweet potato flatbread or shrimp.
Storage:
Store in an air-tight container or glass jar with a lid in a dark, dry place. When stored properly it should last up to 6 months.
Possible variations/add-ons:
- Onion powder
- Cayenne pepper – for an extra spicy kick
- Smoked paprika – for a smokey flavor
- Dried parsley, oregano, thyme, rosemary – for a Mediterranean infusion
Expert tips:
- Use fine salt and finely ground spices.
- Take this recipe as a guide only. You can adjust the ingredient quantities to your liking, omit or add anything you like.
- You can easily double (or more) the recipe.
- To make it hot – add more black pepper. Note that the level of hotness of black pepper can vary from brand to brand. Some might be hotter than others.
- To make it spicier – add cayenne or chili powder.
Important: This is seasoned salt, so it has to be salty! You don’t use it the same way as spice blends. It is not a spice mix.

Homemade Seasoned Salt
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons fine table salt
- 2 teaspoons paprika , see note 1
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon ground turmeric (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine all the ingredients and give them a good stir.
- Store in an airtight container or sealed glass jar in your pantry or kitchen cupboard.
Notes
- You can use either sweet (regular) or smoked paprika. Cayenne pepper can also be added.
- Turmeric is optional and can be omitted.

- Keep in mind that this is a seasoned salt, which means it is salty! It is not a spice blend.
- When stored properly, this should last up to 6 months but I recommend using it within 3 months.
- This recipe yields almost 6 tablespoons (slightly over 1/3 cup) of seasoned salt. The recipe can be easily doubled or halved.
