Seasoning salt adds flavor to many dishes. An easy-to-make seasoning blend that can be customizable to your liking.

This recipe is for a small quantity, but when you increase the quantities, you can use it to make DIY Christmas gifts or hostess gifts as well.

Ingredients of seasoned salt: salt, black pepper, garlic powder, turmeric and paprika.

How to make seasoned salt at home

Tools:

  • Measuring spoons and cups.
  • Small bowl – a soup bowl is the perfect size but any will do as long as you can fit all in.
  • Spoon – to stir everything around.
  • Airtight container – or small glass jar with a lid to keep the seasoning salt in.

Ingredients:

  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika
  • Turmeric powder

You simply combine all the ingredients together and give it a good mix.

Note: A full recipe card with measurements is at the bottom of this post.

Where to use seasoned salt:

  • Sweet potato wedges
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Meats or poultry
  • Fish – use it to season oven-baked or grilled salmon or any white fish.
  • Hard-boiled or scrambled eggs – season to your taste.
  • Soups – use the same way you would with regular salt.

Or many other dishes like roasted chickpeas, sweet potato flatbread or shrimp.

Storage:

Store in an air-tight container or glass jar with a lid in a dark, dry place. When stored properly it should last up to 6 months.

Seasoned salt with spices.

Expert tips:

  • Use fine salt and finely ground spices.
  • Take this recipe as a guide only. You can adjust the ingredient quantities to your liking, omit or add anything you like.
  • You can easily double (or more) the recipe.
  • To make it hot – add more black pepper. Note that the level of hotness of black pepper can vary from brand to brand. Some might be hotter than others.
  • To make it spicier – add cayenne or chili powder.

Important: This is seasoned salt, so it has to be salty! You don’t use it the same way as spice blends. It is not a spice mix.

If you would like to make your own spice blend, below are some ideas for you.
