Ricotta chocolate banana toast with seeds will keep you going until lunchtime. This nutrient rich whole wheat toast is a perfect healthy breakfast option.
What better way to start off your day than with this healthy banana toast? A whole wheat toast is topped with ricotta mix, banana, melted chocolate and garnished with seeds and honey! Can it get any better than this?
I love fast and healthy breakfast ideas and if you do too, here are some great breakfast recipes for you: Breakfast Bowl, Blueberry Coconut Milk Smoothie, Persimmon Smoothie. All equally delicious and perfect for healthy breakfast on the go!
Now to make 4 banana toasts you will need no more than 10 minutes. In fact, if you are well organized you could get them ready in about 7 minutes! Maybe even less, if you have a toaster that fits 4 toasts or if you were to make one portion only.
How to make banana toast:
The prep consists of toasting the bread, melting the chocolate, mixing ricotta with honey (or not) & slicing bananas. Finally, all you have to do is assemble everything together or let’s just say top the toast. Use melted chocolate as a spread. This is followed by ricotta & honey mixture, bananas and seeds. Grate some chocolate over if you feel like it and you are done!
In less than 10 minutes you will be rewarded with 4 quite nutritious toasts! Those who make breakfast for themselves only will need even less time to prepare these! I think it’s worth it! What can be better than healthy, delicious and energy packed breakfast that is sooo easy and fast to make!
It’s actually not easy to find the “real” ricotta around here. Our local supermarket doesn’t sell this cheese but I had finally sourced it. If I can’t find ricotta I buy the Spanish version called requesón.
The only difference between these two cheeses is the level of saltiness. I find ricotta slightly saltier than Spanish version. Anyways, if you can’t find ricotta, requesón is a great option.
Substitution:
Ricotta – like I’ve already mention requesón is a great choice and has almost identical texture and taste like ricotta. You could also use cottage cheese, if preferred.
Bananas – I wouldn’t omit or substitute the bananas. They give you the much needed energy boost.
Seeds – Choose seeds of your choice or replace them with chia seeds to get the extra energy kick. If using chia seeds I suggest mixing these together with ricotta. You could also use hazelnut or walnuts instead of seeds.
Chocolate – I don’t think there is anyone trying to omit or substitute chocolate. Or is there? I suggest using good quality dark chocolate with high cocoa content (70-80%) which is a healthy option.
Honey – you can omit this but I find that this banana toast tastes better when the extra bit of sweetness is added to ricotta. You could use agave syrup or maple syrup instead.
Now as you can see making a healthy breakfast toast is pretty easy. What I like about this banana toast is the fact that it provides you with nutrients, vitamins and energy. Ricotta itself is a great source of calcium, protein and vitamin A.
Bananas are packed with potassium and give us the much needed energy boost as well. Honey, seeds and dark chocolate are also great sources of energy and they complement each other well.
Ricotta banana toast is definitely a healthy breakfast option so if you are after healthy lifestyle, this is the way to go.
I hope you’ll give it a go. If you do, let me know what you think. And those of you who are not new to banana toast, let me know what else you top it with!

What lovely pictures of your banana toast! That’s a nice balance of creamy, fruity, chocolatey, and sweet. I like all the ideas you have for variations on the theme too. I think I’ll go for a bit of almond butter on top (I sometime have issues with seeds) but first I have to get to the store and buy more bananas. We eat them like mad around here. :)

Haha, I gotta say I don’t enjoy eating bananas on their own. They have to be a part of something like a smoothie, bread, toast,… Then I love them.
