A quick recipe for homemade cinnamon honey butter. 5 minutes and 3 ingredients is all you need to make it. Perfect for bagels, waffles, pancakes, toast or oatmeal! Adjust the amount of cinnamon and honey to your liking.
This flavored butter recipe is one of many that my mom made when we were kids. I still have some in the fridge so every time I crave something sweet I spread a generous amount of it over a toast.
I am planning on making another sweetened butter pretty soon – I guess when I finish the jar of cinnamon honey butter.
But if for some reason you don’t fancy sweetened butter, you might wanna try Roasted Garlic Butter instead.
Where to use cinnamon honey butter?
- Quick breads (Lemon Loaf, Poppy Seed Banana Bread)
- Toast
- Pancakes (Sweet Potato Pancakes)
- Butter rolls
- Waffles
- Oatmeal
- Popcorn (Gingerbread Popcorn)
How to make cinnamon honey butter
It’s important to bring the butter to room temperature so it is easy to work with. Then all you have to do is place it altogether with the rest of the ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth.
This will only take a few seconds.
If you don’t have a food processor, you can also do it by hand.
Did you know?
There are two main types of cinnamon on the market:
- Ceylon
- Cassia
Now, the Cassia variety is actually not the real deal. It is what they call a fake cinnamon. It’s probably the one you buy in your local supermarkets because it’s cheaper and available worldwide.
While it’s OK to eat this variety and it also has similar health benefits than the Ceylon one (the real deal), you should be careful how much you eat. The reason is that it contains a compound that can turn toxic when eaten in large quantities.
So guys, if you enjoy this spice from time to time (e.g. to make this cinnamon honey butter) you will be fine.
However, if you are a cinnamon lover and use this spice a lot (and by that I mean a lot-like using it every day on your oatmeal or adding it to other meals) I highly recommend sourcing the Ceylon type. Just to be on the safe side.

Useful tips
- Store this cinnamon honey butter in the fridge in a sealed jar or a small air-tight container. To bring it back to spreadable texture, simply leave it at room temperature for 10-15 minutes (this time will vary depending on how warm your room is).
- Turn this into a homemade DIY gift for your friends or family.
- Butter substitutions will not work here!

I had no idea about the different types of cinnamon. I’ll be sure to search out the authentic one now. This butter looks dreamy. Wishing I had some right now!

Can you use salted butter?
Julia | Happy Foods Tube says
Jaclyn, I don’t recommend using salted butter as the amount of salt might be overpowering in this case.

Thanks for introduction in cinnamon varieties! Well, now I know why spicy tea is usually made with Ceylon cinnamon, ha :) I love adding cinnamon to all apple recipes, so maybe I should be more careful about it :) I actually never made sweet butter like this, with honey and cinnamon. It sounds like a perfect smear on a morning toast!

Sarah says
How long will this last in the fridge? I can’t wait to try!!
Julia | Happy Foods Tube says
Hi Sarah, if it is stored in an air-tight jar/container it should last several weeks but mine is always gone within days :) (I’d say it’s pretty addictive). Now because it only takes minutes to make I prefer making fresh one whenever I feel like it rather than keep the same in the fridge for ages. Let me know what you think when you try it! :)
